Mr. Herakovich was a quarterback on the Whiting High Schools celebrated 1954 football team. He graduated in 1955 and went on to earn a BS, Civil Engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, 1959, where he also played football. He was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in July of 1985. He became a world famous mechanical engineer, worked for NASA-Langley Research Center, Hampton, Virginia and is still a professor emeritus at the University of Virginia. His primary research interest is mechanics of composite materials with emphasis on theoretical modeling and experimental correlation. He has over 125 papers and 6 books as editor to his credit.
