Louie (Lou) Karras

Born September 19, 1927 in Gary, Indiana.

Attended Gary Emerson High School and graduated in 1945.  He played college football with Purdue from 1946 to 1950 and played in the Chicago All-Star team against the world championship team, the Philadelphia Eagles.  Mr. Karras played for the Washington Redskins from 1950 to 1952.  He was a starter his rookie year.  An eye injury in 1952 ended his professional football career.  He was President of Karras Tire, held the position of Democratic City Chairman of Gary and served as president of the City of Gary Common Council.
