LaTaunya Pollard

Born July 26, 1960 in East St. Louis, Illinois.
LaTaunya Pollard
Ms. Pollard was the region's first female basketball superstar leading East Chicago Roosevelt High School to a 92-2 mark during her high school career, including state championships in 1977 and 1979.  She was named Miss Basketball in 1979.  She earned a scholarship to Long Beach State, earning All-American honors and the Wade Trophy as the nation's most outstanding player in 1983.  In 1980, she was named to the U.S. Olympic team and played 8 years professionally in Italy.  Ms. Pollard was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001.
