 Artist and painter who had many solo exhibitions in museums in galleries around the world including The Whitney Museum of Art in New York City, The Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, The National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington D.C. and The Printworks Gallery in Chicago. She taught at Columbia College Chicago for over 20 years and earned many honors. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1985 and after the cancer re-appeared in 1991, she used her struggles with the disease as the subject of her work. A major book, Hollis Sigler's Breast Cancer Journal: Walking with the Ghosts of my Grandmothers, texts by Susan M. Love, M.D. and James Yood, was published by Hudson Hills in 1999. |
