Charles Adkins

Born in April 27, 1932. 
Died July 1993.
Mr. Adkins was a Gary Golden Gloves lightweight champion and graduated from Roosevelt High School and attended San Jose State College in California on a boxing scholarship.  While boxing for San Jose he won all his fights and was crowned national AAU and National Collegiate welterweight champion.
 

Mr. Adkins won the gold medal for the light welterweight championship in the 1952 Olympics in Helsinski, Finland.  He went on to fight professionally from 1953 to 1955, boxed 17 pro bouts, winning 14, eight of them by knockout.  His three loses were by knockout. He worked for the Chicago Park District after a stint in the Army.
