Adoption is an OptionWorking with us now just may give your child a reason to thank you later.
I'm pregnant! I'm scared and I don't know what to do! Whatever I decide to do, it will affect the rest of my life. Should I parent? Should I consider making plans for an adoption? Can you help me? Lutheran Social Services is here to help you make some very tough choices. What choices do I have? All of your choices will be explained to you. The decision about the baby is yours alone. We will help you, but the choices are yours to make. It is important that you feel good about your decision. The adoption specialist will provide you with loving and caring support to assist you in making an informed decision. If I choose adoption, what will happen to my baby? Your baby will be released from the hospital directly to the adoptive parents. Only if you need more time to make a decision would your child be placed in a foster home. Can I be sure my baby gets a good home? Lutheran Social Services carefully screens couples wishing to adopt. We assess the couple to make sure they are able to provide a loving, secure home with enough financial support. We ask about religious beliefs, family background, education, living conditions, marital history and hobbies. We visit their home, check personal references and screen for criminal records. You can meet the adoptive couple if you wish. Your baby will not be placed unless you agree this is the home where you want your child to be. What about future contact? We will help you maintain contact if that is your wish. You and the adoptive couple define the contact. You may ask that ties include letters and pictures of your child. We understand your interest and need for connection. Can I hold my baby? While in the hospital, you will make the choice whether or not to see, hold or feed the baby. I don't have a car! If transportation to our agency is a problem, the adoption specialist will meet you at a place that is convenient and comfortable for you. What if I've already chosen a couple? If you have already made this decision, we can assist you in the planning so that your private adoption plan goes smoothly and your concerns are fully represented. How much will this cost me? There are no fees for the support services provided by our adoption specialist. Remember: You do not have to face an unplanned pregnancy alone! Lutheran Social Services of
