National Historic Landmark, the Gary Aquatorium was rescued from demolition by the Chanute Aquatorium Society in 1991. The building honors Octave Chanute, the grandfather of flight, and the Tuskegee Airmen, the pioneers who spearheaded the integration of the armed forces.
