According to Urban League President and CEO Vanessa Allen, the Radio Thon will be hosted by WLTH personalities, Urban League board members, community activists and elected officials. “We want to engage the community in this 6-hour marathon in a way that people from all walks of life will see the singular importance of the Urban League and want to financially support its work.”
The Urban League provides a wide variety of services to people living in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties. In 2011 alone, thousands of people received assistance in job searches, computer training, food referrals, education and financial literacy forums, including free tax filings. Qualifying high school seniors have been helped through individual scholarships ranging from $500 - $1000. Recently, the Young Professionals of the Urban League sponsored a major donation drive to support youth residing at the Crisis Center in the Miller section of Gary.
